D-Day Beaches Tour

D-Day Landing Beaches Tours in Normandy

Explore the historic beaches, memorials and museums of the Allied landings on 6 June 1944

Visit the memorable D Day landing beaches of Normandy where Allied forces came ashore on 6 June 1944. These historic sites along the Normandy coastline tell the story of courage, sacrifice and the liberation of Europe. During a guided tour of the Normandy landing beaches we explore the famous American sectors of Utah Beach and Omaha Beach, visiting the key landmarks and museums that explain the events of D Day.

At Utah Beach we stop at the D Day Museum, built at the very spot where General Theodore Roosevelt Jr came ashore with the first wave of troops. The landing craft had been carried south of the planned landing area by the tides. Realising this, Roosevelt famously said, “Let’s start the war from right here.” At Omaha Beach we walk along the beach itself and visit the moving Normandy American Cemetery, which overlooks the sea. The cemetery contains 9,389 graves and the Wall of the Missing which honours those who never returned. We can also visit the dramatic cliffs of Pointe du Hoc, where US Rangers climbed under heavy fire to capture German positions.

The Normandy coastline also includes other important D Day landing sectors such as Juno Beach, Gold Beach and Sword Beach. These locations are home to many museums, memorials and historic sites that help visitors understand the events of D Day and the wider Battle of Normandy. At Juno Beach visitors can discover the excellent Juno Beach Centre and Canada House, believed to be one of the first houses liberated on the morning of 6 June 1944. At Gold Beach the remains of the Mulberry Harbour still stand as a reminder of the remarkable engineering that supported the Allied invasion. The British Normandy Memorial at Ver sur Mer is another powerful place of remembrance. At Sword Beach we can visit Pegasus Bridge and the nearby area where British airborne troops landed by glider in the early hours of D Day to secure the eastern side of the landing beaches.

Each tour is tailored to your interests so that you can explore the Normandy D-Day beaches and historic sites that matter most to you. As there is so much to discover, a tour usually focuses on one or two landing sectors in a day, allowing each location to be explored in depth.
